It is widely debated whether Do you think this is a positive or negative development?
. While some people contend that is increased I strongly believe that is positive development due to continuing their education after school has increased, and the range of courses available at universities and colleges has also increased.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You state a positive position in the opening (“I strongly believe that is positive development”) and refer to both increased participation in education and a wider range of courses. However, the response does not clearly explain how the second point supports your view, and examples such as studying at home and getting a good exam mark are not sufficiently connected to the question. The conclusion is incomplete and does not summarise a developed argument. The response is also 154 words, below the required 250 words; 52 words copied from the prompt were excluded from that count. This leaves the task only minimally addressed, with ideas largely asserted rather than explained. Develop two relevant reasons, support each with a specific example, and finish with a complete conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is an attempt to organise the response into an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” show awareness of paragraph roles. However, progression within the paragraphs is difficult to follow: the first moves from further education to studying at home and then to students’ capabilities without making the links clear. The second paragraph contains a sentence fragment (“a clear illustration of this can be seen in”) and ends with an unclear result. Several ideas are repeated rather than developed, and punctuation and spacing interrupt the flow. Use one clear main idea per paragraph, explain how each example supports it, and connect references explicitly.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
The response uses some topic-related vocabulary, including “education,” “universities and colleges,” “courses,” and “capabilities,” so the general subject is recognisable. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and several word choices or combinations make the intended meaning hard to understand. Phrases such as “give a plus for a head,” “a hard development at Capabilities,” and “making a good students” are not natural or precise in this context. There are also spelling errors, including “developement” and “illustartion,” and inconsistent capitalisation. Build a small set of accurate academic phrases for discussing benefits, skills and course choice, and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt some longer structures, including “While some people contend that…” and “This is mainly because…,” as well as a concluding clause beginning “although.” This shows an effort to use more than simple sentences. However, many sentence patterns are incomplete or inaccurately formed, which often obscures the relationships between ideas. For example, “While some people contend that is increased” lacks a clear subject and complete clause, while “I strongly believe that is positive development” is missing grammatical elements. The final sentence also stops before completing the thought. Practise forming complete subject–verb clauses, using articles and agreement accurately, and punctuating sentence boundaries. Then check that every sentence expresses a complete idea.
