In many countries these days, the number of people continuing their education after school has increased, and the range of courses available at universities and colleges has also increased.

Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant experience.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

The number of students continue their study after school has increased, and the range of courses available at colleges and universities has also increased. This essay will discuss why I believe this is a positive development.

Firstly, the people continue their studies because at universities and colleges students learn practical rather than theory. Colleges and universities students explore and present projects, assignments and internships, they enjoy that study and implements their study practical. For instance, Germany, Italy and multiple countries, individuals connect their proffessor, and the exams are conceptuall. Students work hard to learn more and better their concepts. After the graduation, students get higher rank jobs.

Secondly, other positive development individuals know about their right and find multiple ways to improve their income. In France, and Italy students stand in front of the government for their right. These countries cost of living is so high and universities not higher the proffersor, so students strike in the front of universities for their right. That is positive development because the studnets how learn after school, they know about their rights and government responsi

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You state a clear overall view in the introduction: you believe the increase is positive, and both body paragraphs attempt to support that position. However, the response addresses the question only partially: the first paragraph discusses practical learning and employment, while the second shifts to students’ rights and protests without clearly explaining how the wider range of courses makes this development positive. The examples about Germany, Italy, France and living costs are asserted rather than fully explained, so the reader cannot see how they support the main claim. The response is also 171 words, below the required 250; 11 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Develop each reason with a clear explanation and a specific, relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction followed by two paragraphs beginning “Firstly” and “Secondly.” These markers help identify the two main points, and the ideas generally relate to your positive position. However, progression within the paragraphs is difficult to follow: the first moves from practical learning to projects, exams and jobs without showing the links between them, while the second moves from rights to living costs and strikes. Some connections are unclear, particularly “That is positive development because…” followed by an unfinished thought. Use topic sentences that state one reason, then explain and illustrate it in sequence. Complete the final sentence and use clearer links between claims and examples to make the argument easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “practical,” “assignments,” “internships,” “graduation,” “income” and “right.” This gives you a basic range for discussing education and its possible effects. However, vocabulary is often repetitive or imprecise, and several word choices make the meaning difficult to understand. For example, “students learn practical rather than theory” and “higher rank jobs” do not express the intended ideas naturally; “proffessor” and “conceptuall” are also misspelled. The phrase “government responsi” is incomplete. Aim to use accurate collocations and check spelling, especially for key topic words. More precise vocabulary would help you explain the benefits and examples clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a reason clause in “because at universities and colleges…” and a sentence beginning “After the graduation…”. However, control is inconsistent, and errors frequently make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “The number of students continue their study” has problems with subject–verb agreement and number, while “Colleges and universities students explore…” lacks a clear grammatical structure. In “students stand in front of the government,” the sentence pattern does not clearly express the intended action. The final sentence is incomplete, and punctuation around introductory phrases is also inconsistent. Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then extend them with one well-controlled clause. Proofread for agreement, articles, plurals and complete sentences.
