Student answer (Band 6.5)

In contemporary world, higher number of people are pursuing education after school and they have more option of courses at universities and colleges. I believe it is a highly positive development because it improves the literacy and social standard of a country and help resolves the issue of saturation of jobs in selected fields.

Higher education after school produces more learned people and scholars. The graduation of these college and university students is not just a certificate for them rather it uplifts the literacy rate, and improves the skillset and moral sense of the society as a whole. For instance, the lower literacy rate of countries like Pakistan is due to a great number of children not pursuing higher education. As a result, Pakistan society is deterioriating in terms of ethics as well as innovativeness.

More graduates in variety of disciplines means more than just a good number of degree holders. The more academic avenues are there to pursue for the youth, the less saturated will be the job market of the country. For instance, if the college and university students have to choose from just Engineering or Medical fields, like in Pakistan, the country may produce more engineers and doctors than it can adjust in its industries and hospitals. On the other hand, other sectors like that of technical education, banks and coporate offices will remain vacant and wont contribute much to the economy of the country. Instead, if students can opt from variety of subjects to pursue their higher education, they will not only suffice the available vacancies across many sectors afterwards but it will also make the country independent in technical, corporate or any other domains where it lacked while being a saturated job market previously.

In conclusion, the increase in number of higher education graduates and range of of courses to study at colleges and universities is a positive trend as it contributes largely to academic, moral and professional setup of a country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you consider the trend positive, and both body paragraphs give relevant reasons. You explain that higher education can improve literacy and social standards, then argue that a wider choice of courses can help address imbalances in the job market. The Pakistan examples make the discussion more concrete, and the conclusion restates your view. This is a well-focused response with ideas extended and supported. Some claims, however, are broad—for example, linking limited higher education directly to declining ethics—and the first paragraph could explain more precisely how graduates improve society. Develop that reasoning with a specific mechanism or example to make the support more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, each body paragraph develops a separate reason, and the conclusion returns to the central position. The progression from social benefits to employment benefits is logical, and signposts such as “For instance” and “On the other hand” help readers follow the argument. To strengthen cohesion further, make some links between claims more explicit. For example, the move from the literacy rate to “ethics as well as innovativeness” is abrupt, and the long final sentence of the second body paragraph contains several connected outcomes that would be clearer if divided and linked more carefully. Avoid repeating “higher education” and “country” where a clear reference or varied phrasing would work.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including terms such as “literacy rate,” “skillset,” “academic avenues,” “saturated,” and “vacancies.” These choices help communicate ideas about education and employment, and the meaning remains clear despite some imprecise or unnatural expressions. There are several word-choice and collocation issues, such as “social standard,” “the graduation of these college and university students,” and “suffice the available vacancies.” Spelling errors also occur in “deterioriating,” “coporate,” and “wont.” Aim for more natural academic collocations and check spelling carefully; this would make your vocabulary more precise and controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including cause-and-effect clauses and comparisons such as “if …, the country may produce…” and “the less saturated will be…”. Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. In the opening, “a highly positive development because it improves … and help resolves” has a subject–verb agreement problem and an incorrect verb form. Other examples include “the graduation of these college and university students,” where the plural noun forms are not controlled, and “the increase … is a positive trend as it contributes,” where the subject–verb relationship is awkward. Review agreement, articles, and verb patterns, and break up the longest sentences to improve accuracy.
