Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response attempts to describe the pie charts but fails to provide a clear overview or accurately report the data. The information provided is often confusing or contradictory, particularly in the second paragraph where the description of the second chart is unclear. For instance, stating '15% students have no changed' is ambiguous and does not effectively convey the data. The report lacks a clear summary of the main trends, which is essential for Task 1. While all categories are mentioned, the lack of clarity in data presentation and the failure to provide a coherent overview significantly limit the achievement of the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organised into two paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is weak. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'in additional' and 'according to', but they are often used incorrectly or mechanically. The referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the connection between the data points and the teachers' reported reasons. The lack of logical flow between sentences hinders the overall coherence of the report. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks the necessary logical development to reach a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'respond by teacher' instead of 'responses by teachers' and 'very less student' instead of 'very few students'. The phrase 'british language' is used incorrectly, as the task refers to foreign languages in Britain. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information with precision. While the meaning is generally understandable, the errors in word formation and usage are noticeable and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response relies on simple sentence structures with frequent grammatical errors. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'most students are learn' and '7% of pupils wants'. Punctuation is also problematic, with inconsistent use of commas and periods. Complex structures are attempted but are almost always faulty, such as 'though they were learnt new language'. These frequent errors, particularly in basic grammar, impede the clarity of the report. A wider range of error-free complex sentences is required to achieve a higher band score.
