Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the response. While the report attempts to describe the data, the analysis is superficial and lacks a clear overview of the main trends. The description of the data is often inaccurate or confusing, such as claiming travel 'rose dramatically' when the chart shows a static snapshot of survey responses rather than a longitudinal study. The failure to address the second pie chart (the change in reasons) further limits the task achievement. To improve, ensure all parts of the prompt are addressed and provide a more thorough analysis of the data points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into short paragraphs, but the logical flow is weak. The introduction is poorly constructed, and the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is disjointed. Cohesive devices are used in a mechanical and sometimes incorrect way, such as 'In contrast' used to introduce a point that does not clearly contrast with the previous one. The referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of ideas. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would help improve the coherence of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic verbs like 'rose' or 'showed'. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'accounted rise slightly' and 'madeup for 19%'. The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe statistical data. To achieve a higher band, you should expand your range of vocabulary to include more varied ways of describing trends and proportions, and pay closer attention to the correct usage of verbs and prepositions in a statistical context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'The pie charts illustrates' and 'The travel experienced highest figure'. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often contain errors, such as 'Foreign partner showed lowest figure 3% from all of the reasons'. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and using articles and prepositions correctly before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
