Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, but the analysis is somewhat superficial. You have identified the key data points, but the comparison between the two charts is weak. The task requires a clear overview that highlights the most significant trends or differences, which is missing here. Additionally, there are some inaccuracies in the data reporting; for instance, the description of the first chart's categories is unclear and contains repetitive phrasing. To improve, ensure you provide a clear summary of the main trends in the introduction or overview paragraph and group the data logically rather than listing percentages sequentially.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by awkward transitions and repetitive sentence structures. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Secondly' and 'Moreover', they feel mechanical. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when moving between the two charts. The paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks a smooth progression of ideas. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data comparison.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'their their' (a typo) and 'international language' when referring to foreign languages. The repetition of 'students' and 'foreign language' throughout the text makes the writing feel limited. You should aim to use more synonyms and precise collocations related to data description, such as 'account for', 'represent', or 'a significant proportion'. Spelling errors like 'ans' for 'and' and 'leaning' for 'learning' also detract from the overall quality of the lexical presentation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'This pie chart illustrate', '34% of student shows'), missing articles, and incorrect preposition usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. To improve, pay closer attention to pluralisation and verb tense consistency. Proofreading for basic errors like '33 percent of student learn' (should be 'students learn') would significantly enhance the accuracy of your writing.
