Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. Furthermore, the report is incomplete; it stops abruptly mid-sentence when transitioning to the second chart. While the introduction attempts to paraphrase the prompt, the body paragraphs lack a clear overview and fail to present all the data from the charts. The information provided is fragmented, and the analysis of the data is insufficient to meet the requirements of an Academic Task 1 report. To improve, you must ensure all data points are covered, include a clear summary of trends, and meet the minimum length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The response lacks logical progression and clear paragraphing. The transition between the introduction and the body is abrupt, and the final sentence is incomplete, which disrupts the flow of information. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas, making the text feel like a list of disconnected observations rather than a coherent report. The referencing is also unclear, as the connection between the data points and the charts is not well-established. To improve, focus on using transition words (e.g., 'in contrast', 'furthermore') and ensure each paragraph has a clear purpose.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'forign pathes' (likely meaning 'foreign travel' or 'paths') and 'bussiness work'. The phrasing is often unnatural, such as 'free purpose learning'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe data effectively, relying on basic structures rather than precise terminology like 'proportion', 'percentage', or 'significant'. To improve, practice using topic-specific vocabulary related to data description and ensure you proofread for basic spelling errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('the number of student who learn'), missing articles, and incorrect sentence construction ('In the given pie chart show...'). The sentence structures are mostly simple and often contain errors in tense and word order. There is no evidence of complex sentence structures. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and work on the correct use of articles and pluralization.
