The pie charts below show responses by teachers of foreign languages in Britain to a survey concerning why their students are learning a foreign language. The first chart shows the main reason for learning a foreign language. The second chart shows how many teachers felt that there has been a recent change in the reason.

Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information below.

The two pie charts illustrate the reasons why people learn foreign language, according to the teachers in Britian, and the proportion of teachers reporting a recent increase in each reason.

Overall, travel was the most common reason for learning foreign language, while buying property overseas showed the largest recent increase. In contrast, learning for a foreign partner remained one of the least common reasons.

According to the first chart, travel accounted the highest proportion at 33%, followed by business work at 26%, buying property overseas was the reason for 19% of learners. Social contact, personal development and general interest each represented 7%, 7& and 5% respectively. Only 3% learned a language because they had a foreign partner.

The second pie chart shows the 34% of teachers reported an increase in learning for buying property overseas. Business or work accounted for 19%, while social contacts and no change were both 15%. General interest represented 6% and personal development and having a foreign partner each stood at 4%. Travel had the smallest increase at just 3%.
