Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task by describing the data, but it fails to provide a clear overview or accurately report the trends. The data interpretation is inconsistent; for example, the report claims 'business work' decreased from 26% to 19%, but the charts provided (if interpreted as standard IELTS data) require more precise comparison. Furthermore, the report struggles to distinguish between the two charts, leading to confusion. The summary of the data is fragmented, and the lack of a clear, accurate overview prevents the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, ensure you clearly separate the two charts and identify the most significant trends rather than listing every figure.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the misuse of 'While' and 'However' at the start of sentences. The transition between the two charts is abrupt, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison. Referencing is also unclear; for instance, the phrase 'these are increased and fell' is confusing because it does not clearly link back to the specific categories mentioned. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would significantly enhance the coherence of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and contains several inaccuracies that hinder precision. Words like 'mentor' are used incorrectly to refer to teachers, and 'external languages' is not standard terminology for 'foreign languages'. There is also repetitive use of basic verbs like 'shows' and 'is'. While the student attempts to use some comparative language, the lack of precision in word choice (e.g., 'minimal reason' instead of 'least common reason') limits the score. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', and 'significant increase'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede meaning. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The given pie chart illustrate'), incorrect tense usage (e.g., 'reason has been changed'), and missing articles. Sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when attempting complexity. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and capitalization. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subjects and verbs agree, and using consistent tenses when describing past and present data. Proofreading for basic errors like 'is decreased' instead of 'decreased' is essential.
