Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to accurately interpret the provided data. The prompt describes two distinct charts: one showing the 'main reason' for learning and another showing 'recent changes'. You have conflated these, incorrectly describing the data as a comparison of two time periods (e.g., 'within time' and 'from 19 percent to 34 percent'). The data provided in the prompt does not show a timeline, but rather a snapshot of teacher opinions. Consequently, the report misrepresents the information, leading to a failure to address the task requirements correctly. The overview is also inaccurate because it describes a trend over time that is not supported by the source material.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by the inaccurate interpretation of the data. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'First of all', 'Conversely', and 'In a nutshell', they are often used mechanically or to connect ideas that do not logically follow from the data. The referencing is unclear, particularly when discussing the 'change' in percentages, as the reader cannot identify which chart is being referenced. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks the necessary clarity to guide the reader through the information effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. Phrases such as 'percentage of teachers' are used repeatedly, and there is a lack of variety in reporting verbs or descriptive language. Some word choices are imprecise or awkward, such as 'negative feedback of teachers about learning of foreign language' and 'reasons are increased'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information with the precision required for an Academic Task 1 report. To improve, you should focus on using a wider range of synonyms and more accurate collocations related to data description.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The pie charts illustrates'), article usage (e.g., 'learning new language'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain awkward phrasing, such as 'the dramatic rise in percentage of teachers about buying property overseas... is reflecting in pie charts'. While the meaning is generally discernible, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and punctuation prevents the response from reaching a higher band. More attention to sentence construction and proofreading is necessary.
