The two pie charts compare the responses of foreign-language teachers in Britain regarding the main reasons why their students learn a foreign language and the reasons for which teachers had observed a recent increase in language learning.
Overall, travel was the most common reason for learning a foreign language, while buying property overseas accounted for the largest proportion of teachers reporting a recent increase. General interest represented 5%, and having a foreign partner was the least common reason, at just 3%.
The second chart presents a different picture, showing the reasons for which teachers reported a recent increase in language learning.
