Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the task by describing the two charts. However, the information is presented in a fragmented and confusing manner. While you identify some data points, the report lacks a clear overview or a logical synthesis of the information. The description of the data is often inaccurate or difficult to follow, such as when you list percentages without clearly linking them to the categories. To improve, ensure you group related data together and provide a clear summary of the main trends rather than just listing figures. The report fails to clearly distinguish between the two different charts in a way that makes the information easy for the reader to interpret.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. The progression of ideas is often disjointed, and the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes incorrect, such as the repetitive use of 'The one bar chart' and 'The other bar chart'. There is a lack of logical flow between sentences, making it difficult to follow the comparison of the data. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'in contrast', 'furthermore', 'consequently') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus. Referencing is also inconsistent, which hinders the overall clarity of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'abroad languages' instead of 'foreign languages', 'children' instead of 'students', and 'foreign speaking' instead of 'foreign language'. The phrasing is often repetitive, and there is little evidence of a range of vocabulary suitable for an academic report. To improve, focus on learning accurate collocations related to data description, such as 'the highest proportion', 'a significant increase', or 'remained stable'. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise terms for describing trends will significantly improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The bar chart illustrate'), incorrect article usage, and awkward sentence structures. The attempt at complex sentences is limited, and many sentences are grammatically incomplete or incorrectly punctuated. For example, 'The one bar chart represents the most important point for learning a abroad speaking' is awkward and grammatically flawed. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and practicing the correct use of articles and prepositions. Proofreading for simple errors would also be highly beneficial.
