Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0
The response fails to address the task requirements. You have not described the data provided in the pie charts; instead, you have written a general essay about language learning. A Task 1 report must objectively summarize the information presented in the visuals, such as identifying the most common reasons for learning a language (e.g., travel or business) and noting the trends shown in the second chart. You have ignored the specific data points and the prompt's instruction to report on the survey results. To improve, focus on identifying key features, comparing the categories, and using the actual percentages provided in the charts to support your description.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response lacks logical organization and progression. While there are paragraph breaks, the ideas within them are disjointed and do not follow a clear structure. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences, making the text difficult to follow. For example, the transition between discussing business reasons and the mention of English as an international language is abrupt and confusing. To improve, ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and use linking words like 'furthermore', 'in contrast', or 'consequently' to guide the reader through your analysis of the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
Your vocabulary is limited and often used incorrectly, which impedes communication. Phrases like 'the people seeks different languages courses' and 'the number traveler go to decrease' are grammatically and lexically inaccurate. You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle to use appropriate terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', or 'trend'. To improve, focus on learning collocations related to reporting data and practice using more precise nouns and verbs to describe the information in the charts rather than relying on general, informal language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that make the meaning unclear. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people seeks'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack a clear subject and verb, such as 'The chart shows that reasons learning foreign language.' The misuse of tenses and prepositions further complicates the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and verb tense consistency.
