Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the task, but the analysis is significantly flawed. You have failed to accurately interpret the data, often misstating the figures or making illogical comparisons. For instance, you describe the 'business' category as the highest, while the chart shows 'buying property overseas' as the dominant reason. Furthermore, the report lacks a clear overview of the main trends, which is essential for a Band 6 or higher. The information is presented in a fragmented way, making it difficult for the reader to grasp the key features of the data. To improve, focus on identifying the most significant trends and grouping data logically rather than listing individual percentages.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The essay lacks logical progression. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Moving further' and 'In conclusion', they are often used inappropriately or do not effectively link the ideas. The paragraphing is ineffective, as the conclusion is placed at the beginning, and the body paragraphs do not follow a clear structure. There is a lack of clear referencing, and the relationship between the two charts is not clearly explained. The overall arrangement of information is confusing, which hinders the reader's ability to follow the report's logic.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is limited and frequently inaccurate. You use terms like 'percentile' when you mean 'percentage', and 'escalate in masses' is an unnatural collocation. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'mentors' for 'teachers' and 'foreign partner' as a category label, which does not accurately reflect the data provided. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information with precision. To reach a higher band, you need to use more precise terminology for describing data, such as 'proportion', 'significant', 'majority', and 'fluctuation'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are issues with article usage ('the pie chart' vs 'a pie chart'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure. For example, 'the percentile of educators who reported... was stable by 7%' is grammatically incorrect and confusing. Many sentences are poorly constructed, making the meaning unclear. You rely on simple structures, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors. Improving your control over basic sentence patterns and ensuring correct preposition usage is essential for progress.
