Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to cover the data provided in the two pie charts. However, it fails to meet the requirements of an Academic Task 1 report. The tone is informal and conversational, using phrases like 'So I would like to share' and 'So now let’s talk about'. There is no overview or summary of the main trends, which is a critical requirement for this task. Furthermore, the data is presented as a list rather than an analytical report. To improve, you must adopt a formal, objective tone, group the data logically, and provide a clear summary of the most significant features.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response lacks logical progression and clear paragraphing. The use of cohesive devices is extremely limited and mechanical, relying on repetitive structures like 'on the second', 'on third', and 'fourth number'. There is no effective use of linking words to connect ideas or compare the two charts. The structure is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two sets of data. To improve, you should use a wider range of cohesive devices (e.g., 'in contrast', 'furthermore', 'consequently') and ensure each paragraph has a clear, unified focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, often relying on the words provided in the prompt. There are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'social contracts' (likely meaning 'social contacts') and 'Bussiness' (spelling error). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information with precision. You should aim to use more varied and accurate terminology to describe data, such as 'account for', 'represent', 'the majority of', and 'a significant proportion'. Expanding your vocabulary to include synonyms for 'reason' and 'increase' will help improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'students who learns', 'the same percentage is for the those who learns'), article usage, and sentence structure. The writing consists mostly of simple, fragmented sentences. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, which are necessary for higher band scores. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and punctuation. Additionally, try to incorporate more complex sentence forms, such as relative clauses or passive voice, to describe the data more formally.
