Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the data provided in the pie charts, but the analysis is significantly hampered by inaccurate reporting of the figures and a lack of clarity. For instance, the statement that 'travel rate was decreased by 30%' is confusing and does not clearly explain the relationship between the two charts. Furthermore, the description of the data is disjointed, and the overview provided at the end is vague and fails to highlight the most significant trends effectively. The report lacks a clear, logical summary of the key features, which is essential for a Band 6 or higher. The information is presented in a way that makes it difficult for the reader to grasp the main findings of the survey.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'At the first glance' and 'Shifting towards', they are often used incorrectly or in a mechanical fashion. The referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to follow which data point is being discussed. For example, the transition between the first and second paragraph is abrupt, and the final paragraph fails to provide a coherent summary, ending with a fragmented sentence. The overall structure lacks the necessary flow to guide the reader through the data effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate, which impacts the clarity of the report. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'weightage of 33%', 'demand is platue', and 'least prefer foreign partner'. These errors demonstrate a lack of control over the vocabulary required to describe statistical data. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific terms, the misuse of these words often leads to confusion. To improve, the student needs to focus on using precise terminology for describing trends and proportions, such as 'proportion', 'accounted for', and 'fluctuated'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('The pie charts depicts', 'recent change is happen'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack the necessary components to be grammatically correct, such as 'The data measure in percentage'. The range of structures is very limited, relying mostly on simple sentences that are often poorly constructed. There is little evidence of complex sentence structures, and the punctuation is inconsistent, particularly in the list of figures provided in the third paragraph.
