Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to address both pie charts, noting the main reasons for learning a foreign language and the reported recent changes. However, there are significant misinterpretations of the data provided in the second chart. For example, the writer confuses 'no change' (15%) and 'buying property overseas' (34%) with shifts in percentages, writing that 'travel was 33% now it changes to 3%,' which misreads the second chart where 3% represents the recent increase for travel. Consequently, key features are inaccurately reported, leading to an under-developed response that falls short of fully conveying the visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The report shows some attempt at organisation with an introductory sentence and subsequent body details, but the logical progression is disrupted by abrupt transitions and poor paragraphing. The second body paragraph starts abruptly with 'Secondly,' and the final sentence trails off unfinished ('F'). Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes inaccurate, such as using 'In contrast' incorrectly when comparing the two charts. Furthermore, referencing is unclear in places, making the overall arrangement somewhat disjointed.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate to discuss general concepts related to the charts, including terms like 'proportion,' 'percentage,' and 'common reasons.' However, there is a limited and repetitive range, with frequent lexical and collocational errors such as 'a research concerning that why students wants' and 'personal development is remained same.' Attempts at less common vocabulary are often inaccurate, and the limitations in word choice occasionally impede clear communication, particularly when describing the statistical trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but grammatical accuracy is weak throughout the text. There are numerous errors in subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, such as 'students wants,' 'percentage of teachers reporting recent increase of people to learn,' and 'buying property were 26% now it increased.' Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also problematic, illustrated by the abrupt end of the response with an isolated letter. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader.
