Student answer (Band 6.5)
The two pie charts illustrates the proportion of the most common reasons for learning a foreign language and recent increments in number of people for distinct reasons. The data of both pie charts is reported by teachers.
Overall, travel had the highest percentage followed by business or work for learning a foreign lingo. Furthermore, current data shows that there is increase in number of people learning a non-native language to buy properties overseas.
In terms of most common reasons, travel and business were predominantly higher with 33% and 26% respectively. Nearly 1 out of every 5 person picking a new tongue was because of acquiring foreign property. Other purposes such as social contacts, personal development, and general interest were relatively low with 7% for the first two and 5% for the latter. With just 3%, foreign partner remained the rarest reason of all.
The data which shows increase in people studying a second language was lead by property purchase with over one-third of proportions, followed by business or work with 19%. Motives like travel, foreign partner, general interests and personal development ranged from 3% to 6%. There were no change for 15% people, which was also the same percentage of social contacts.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The student successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features from both charts. An overview is provided, noting that travel was the most common reason overall and property purchase leads the recent increases. Key data points are accurately cited, such as travel at 33% and business at 26% in the first chart, and property overseas at 34% in the second chart. The response covers all relevant information without significant omissions or inaccuracies, meeting the requirements for a Band 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized with a clear overall progression. It begins with an introductory paragraph, followed by an overview, body paragraphs addressing each chart respectively, and logical referencing. Cohesive devices are used appropriately, such as 'Furthermore', 'In terms of', and 'followed by'. Paragraphing is clear, separating the introduction/overview from the body details effectively. Although some transitions could be smoother, the structure supports the flow of information well, earning a Band 7.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, including appropriate terms like 'proportion', 'predominantly higher', and 'purchasing'. However, there are some informal or imprecise word choices, such as 'lingo', '1 out of every 5 person' (should be plural 'persons'), and 'the rarest reason'. Minor errors occur in collocation and word form, but communication is not impeded. This performance fits the Band 6.5 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures with reasonable control. Examples include relative clauses and participial phrases. However, there are a few grammatical slips and agreement errors, such as 'The two pie charts illustrates' (subject-verb agreement), 'There were no change' (should be 'was'), and 'is increase in number'. Despite these minor inaccuracies, the majority of sentences are clear and correct, warranting a Band 6.5.
