Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to address both charts, identifying key categories such as travel (33%) and business/work (26%) in the first chart, and noting the primary recent increases in the second chart (such as buying property overseas at 34%). However, the overview is extremely brief and incomplete, failing to fully synthesize the main trends across both charts. Furthermore, there are some inaccuracies and vague descriptions, such as stating that people 'bought land overseas' rather than 'buying property overseas', and loose phrasing like '3% to 7% learn for friends partner'. While the main features are touched upon, the lack of a fully developed overview and imprecise data reporting place this response firmly in Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is divided into three short paragraphs, attempting an introduction, body, and conclusion. However, the logical progression is weak. The transitions between sentences feel abrupt, such as 'Then comes people with work...' and 'And about 3 to 4% lastly...'. Cohesive devices are minimal, mechanical, or misused (e.g., 'where most increment is seen...'). Paragraphing is present, but the structural flow lacks the clear logical progression expected at higher bands. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to seamlessly follow the comparisons between the two charts. This corresponds to a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The lexical range is limited and repetitive. The student uses basic vocabulary throughout, such as 'chart', 'answers', 'reasons', 'learn', and 'numbers'. There are spelling and word-choice errors, including 'diffrent' (different), 'travelling' (travel), and 'increment' instead of 'increase'. Collocations are occasionally unnatural, such as 'bought land overseas' instead of 'buying property overseas'. Although the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic topic, the frequent inaccuracies and lack of less common lexical items restrict the score to Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'answers given by the teachers of foreign language to why their students were learning', 'how many teachers felt about the students changing', and 'become able to understand'. Punctuation is also neglected in places, such as missing periods or commas. While the meaning is generally decipherable, the high frequency of errors across basic and attempted complex sentences means it meets the criteria for Band 5.0.
