Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to describe the two pie charts regarding reasons for learning foreign languages and recent changes observed by teachers. However, the task achievement is significantly hindered by major misinterpretations of the data and garbled descriptions. For example, the student states that the highest proportion in the first chart was 'to travel in the different countries' at 33%, which is correct, but later describes the second chart by stating 'while other remains almost same in their trend or have bit increase aporimately 50% in each area of interest,' which is factually incorrect and misrepresents the data (where buying property overseas is actually 34%). While an overview is attempted, the underdeveloped analysis and inaccurate reporting of key features place this at Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is divided into an introduction and two body paragraphs, attempting a logical structure. However, coherence is severely disrupted by frequent referencing errors, awkward phrasing, and mechanical cohesive devices like 'In contrast to that learning reasons' and 'The report indicate that reasons professors observed...'. Paragraphing is present, but the overall progression of ideas is difficult to follow due to poor sentence construction and lack of clear logical links between clauses. Consequently, the organization feels disjointed, warranting a Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and contains numerous errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'illuistrate', 'oberved', 'althrough', 'scene' (for seen), 'aporimately', and 'propery'. While the student attempts some less common terms like 'proportion', 'personal development', and 'overseas', the frequent lexical inaccuracies and non-standard collocations ('social contrast' instead of social contacts) frequently impede communication and strain the reader, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Grammatical control is weak throughout the text. The response contains numerous grammatical errors and awkward structures, such as 'reasons for learning foreign languages was increase in students study in britain', 'the huge proportion was to travel', and 'while other remains almost same'. There is a lack of error-free sentences, and attempts at complex structures consistently result in faulty grammar and awkward syntax. Punctuation is also problematic. These frequent errors cause significant difficulty for the reader, aligning with Band 4.5 or 5.0.
