The pie charts below show responses by teachers of foreign languages in Britain to a survey concerning why their students are learning a foreign language. The first chart shows the main reason for learning a foreign language. The second chart shows how many teachers felt that there has been a recent change in the reason.

The pie charts provide data about teachers responses of different languages in the UK to a survey concerning why their students learn a new language. The first chart illustrates what main reasons for learning a foreign language there are and the second chart shows the amount of teachers that think that there is a recent change in the reason.

Overall, travel and business or work are stated as the most common reasons for learning an unknown language. But there is a high amount of teachers that believe that buying property overseas has increased in recent years.

33% of teachers claim that their students learn a foreign language because of travelling. In addition, 26% stated that students do it for business and work. Only 3% of teachers think that their students learn a new language because of his or her relationship partner that comes from a differen country. In addition, just 5% believe that they learn it out of interest in the language.

However, concerning the recent increase, the majority of teachers reported that buying property overseas is a big factor in this learning change, at 34%. Comparing to that, only 3% voted for travel and 4% each for personal development and because of a foreign partner.
