Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response makes a clear attempt to describe the two pie charts, covering key trends such as the popularity of buying properties abroad and travelling. An overview is provided in the second paragraph, contrasting the changes across categories. However, the response fails to meet the minimum word length requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly at only 120 words with an unfinished sentence ("Likewise,"). Furthermore, there is a minor misinterpretation of the data in the text where the student confuses the main reason for learning (33% for travel) with the recent increase data (3% for travel), stating that the number of students dropped from 33% to 3% when 3% actually represents the teachers reporting travel as a recent increase. Due to the severe under-length penalty and incomplete conclusion, Task Achievement is limited.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays a basic structural framework, including an introductory sentence, an overview paragraph, and the beginning of a body paragraph. Cohesive devices such as "Overall," and "On the other hand," are used to signal transitions between ideas. However, the text lacks overall progression due to its premature termination mid-sentence at the end of the second body paragraph. Paragraphing is attempted, but the abrupt ending severely disrupts the logical flow and development of the report.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as "dramatic surge" and "proportion". However, there are several spelling and typographical errors throughout the text, including "repectively", "puyrpose", "laungage", and "preference". Word choices are occasionally imprecise, such as using "numbers of students choose" instead of proportions of teachers reporting. While the vocabulary is adequate to convey basic concepts related to the charts, the presence of frequent spelling errors and awkward phrasing restricts the lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as "The two pie charts give information about..." and "...whereas the numbers dropped for students who wanted to learn for travelling puyrpose." There are noticeable grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as missing articles ("19% student started...") and incorrect prepositional usage ("learning for travelling puyrpose"). Because the text is incomplete and ends abruptly, the range of structures demonstrated is limited, and grammatical control is inconsistent.
