Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student addresses the main parts of the task by reporting key data from both pie charts, such as the highest categories for the first chart (travel at 33% and business/work at 26%) and the highest for the second chart (buying property overseas at 34%). An overview is attempted in the second paragraph, capturing the most prominent trends. However, the response contains several inaccuracies and misinterpretations of the data. For instance, the student states that 'most people are changing their decision of learning foreign language provide reason of buying property overseas,' which misinterprets the second chart showing a recent *increase* in reasons rather than changing decisions. Furthermore, some minor categories are inaccurately grouped or described. These limitations place the response at Band 5.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is arranged with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs, providing a basic framework for a report. However, logical progression is hindered by poor paragraphing and clunky transitions. The second body paragraph is overly brief and abruptly introduces statistical points without adequate integration. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes incorrectly, such as 'The another increase' and 'and the other pie chart shows'. Reference words are also imprecise, leading to confusion about which data set is being discussed. Overall arrangement shows some organisation, but paragraphing is insufficient and awkward, warranting a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey basic percentages and general categories such as 'percentage of responses', 'general interest', and 'personal development'. However, there are frequent inappropriate word choices and awkward collocations, such as 'most amount of individuals', 'personality developments', and 'The another increase'. Spelling is generally acceptable, but lexical control is weak, and attempts at less common vocabulary often result in unnatural phrasing. The range is sufficient for basic communication but restricted by repetition and inaccuracies, aligning with Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is inconsistent. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('why their student are learning', 'The other peoples reason... are'), missing articles ('learn second language', 'for travel'), and fragmented clauses. Punctuation is basic, and some sentences run on without proper coordination or subordination. While the meaning can generally be understood despite the errors, the frequency of grammatical slips is high, which prevents the response from reaching Band 6.0.
