Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the task only partially. While the student attempts to describe the pie charts, the format is informal, mimicking a spoken conversation rather than an academic report ('Let's discuss about...'). Furthermore, the interpretation of the data contains confusion and irrelevant personal speculation, such as stating that people travel 'because too much students, visiter, worker and business man move one country to another'. Key data points are mentioned, such as travel at 33% and buying property overseas at 34% in the second chart, but the overall selection and reporting of data lack accuracy and clarity. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to adopt an appropriate academic tone, present a clear overview without conversational filler, and accurately summarize the main trends without introducing outside assumptions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organization with an introduction and two body paragraphs focusing on the charts, but progression is hindered by poor paragraphing and a lack of clear overall structure. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, or inaccurate, such as 'Third one is 19%' and 'After that social media cotact and no change is on third number.' Referencing is also confusing at times, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logical flow of ideas. To improve coherence, the student should use standard academic reporting structures, ensure clear paragraph breaks that logically separate the charts, and employ a wider, more accurate range of cohesive links to connect information smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, with noticeable errors that occasionally impede communication. Words are frequently misspelled or used with incorrect word forms, such as 'britain' instead of 'Britain', 'publish' instead of 'published', 'visiter' instead of 'visitors', and 'cotact' instead of 'contact'. Phrasing is often unnatural or conversational, such as 'business man' and 'buying property outside the country'. To achieve a higher score, the student needs to expand their range of vocabulary to include precise terms for describing statistical data (e.g., proportion, figures, segments) and ensure correct spelling and word formation throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response features a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple clauses with frequent grammatical errors. There are issues with subject-verb agreement and tense usage, such as 'the pie charts reports which shows', 'too much students', and 'people increase for learning'. Additionally, prepositions and articles are frequently misused or omitted, as seen in 'move one country to another' and 'for business work'. To improve this criterion, the student must practice forming complex sentences accurately, pay closer attention to basic subject-verb agreement, and eliminate frequent errors in articles and prepositions.
