Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting on both pie charts, providing an overview and selecting key data points. However, some ideas and figures are under-developed or imprecise. For instance, the overview states that the least common reason is a foreign partner, which is accurate at 3%, but the reporting of data details contains some inaccuracies or awkward generalizations, such as referring to percentage points of people as 'citizens' or 'human kind'. The main features like travel at 33% and buying property overseas at 34% are correctly identified, placing the response securely in the middle band where tasks are addressed with some unevenness in detail.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The report has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear division into paragraphs, moving from an introductory overview to body paragraphs detailing each chart. Cohesive devices are used to signal progression, such as 'To begin with', 'In contrast', and 'Furthermore'. However, referencing and cohesion can sometimes feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Finally, one more time similar proportion', which disrupts the natural flow of information. Paragraphing is used appropriately to group related ideas, but the logical links between sentences occasionally lack fluidity.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items related to survey data and language learning, such as 'elucidates', 'motive', and 'proportion'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form, including phrases like 'recent reason for increasing learning', 'other nation language', and referring to survey respondents as 'human kind'. While these lexical errors do not seriously impede communication, they restrict the score, as precision and style in vocabulary remain somewhat limited.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like subordinate clauses and comparative constructions. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing prepositions or incorrect articles ('learning foreign language', 'abroad language'), subject-verb agreement issues ('people learns', 'residents reason is'), and awkward phrasing like 'people reason for learning'. Nevertheless, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the intended data points without significant difficulty.
