Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting an overview of the two charts and reporting key data points, which earns it strong standing. It covers the main trends, such as travel being the most common initial reason at thirty-three percent and buying property overseas becoming the most prominent recent increase at thirty-four percent. However, some aspects are unevenly developed or contain slight inaccuracies in data interpretation—for instance, the text misinterprets the second chart by stating that travel declined to three percent recently, whereas the chart shows three percent for a recent increase, not the current overall level. This keeps the performance at a balanced level where relevant information is present, but certain comparisons lack the complete clarity needed for a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The report maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear division into paragraphs, including an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs dedicated to specific data comparisons. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader through the information, such as 'Meanwhile', 'Turning to the remaining categories', and 'On the other hand'. However, referencing and progression are occasionally mechanical or slightly disjointed, particularly in the overview where the transition between the two distinct charts could be smoother. Paragraphing is adequately handled, but the logical flow between sentences occasionally stumbles due to phrasing, preventing it from reaching a fully seamless level of organisation.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to discuss percentages, proportions, and trends using terms such as 'proportion', 'significant fall', and 'experienced growth'. Less common lexical items are attempted, though with some inaccuracy and occasional awkward phrasing, such as 'acconted for highest proportion' and 'maximum reason'. There are also minor spelling slips, such as 'devleopment' and 'chnages'. While these lexical errors and minor spelling mistakes do not impede communication, they reflect typical limitations of this band, showing sufficient range for the task but lacking the precision and natural control seen at higher levels.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The text demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though complex structures are often limited or accompanied by grammatical inaccuracies. There are frequent missing articles, such as 'The piecharts illustrates' instead of 'The pie chart illustrates' and 'travel acconted for highest proportion', as well as prepositional and structural errors like 'for travel at 33 percent before which had declined'. These errors in grammar and punctuation appear across the text but rarely impede communication, meaning the reader can still grasp the intended meaning. To improve, the writer needs to enhance control over subject-verb agreement, article usage, and clause structures to ensure error-free sentences predominate.
