Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task only partially. While the student attempts to present data from both pie charts, there are notable inaccuracies in reporting the figures. For instance, the writer states that 45% of students learn for business and buying property overseas combined, which miscalculates the actual figures of 26% and 19%. Furthermore, the second chart is misinterpreted: the student lists 34% as buying property overseas (which is correct), but then includes incorrect or confused data for other categories, and some data points are omitted or inaccurately combined. There is an attempt to provide an overview, but the lack of accurate data selection and mechanical recounting of figures prevents a more complete coverage of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some basic organisation with the use of introductory and transitional phrases such as "First of all" and "On the other hand". However, there is no clear overall progression, and the information is presented in a somewhat disjointed manner. Paragraphing is attempted, but sentences within paragraphs lack smooth logical links. Cohesive devices are repetitive and occasionally mechanical, such as starting multiple sentences with "The first given chart" or "the second chart shows". Referencing is also weak in places, leading to confusion about which data set is being referred to.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word formation, such as "britain" (capitalisation), "tour" instead of survey, "pei" instead of pie, "genral", "socail", and "deveploment". The student relies heavily on basic vocabulary and direct repetition of terms from the prompt. While some less common attempts are made, inaccuracies in collocation and form, such as "the most less" and "the most least", cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent a higher evaluation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex clauses. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ("7% was", "34% was"), missing articles ("Second chart shows"), and awkward prepositional phrases. Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also weak, with fragments like "While others like general interest was 6%." These frequent errors cause strain and difficulty for the reader, reflecting basic control over simple grammatical forms.
