Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement, containing only 130 words once prompt copying is excluded, which directly impacts the completeness of the answer. Furthermore, the task is only partially addressed. While the student attempts to report figures from both pie charts, the overview lacks clarity and fails to adequately summarise the main trends or overall differences between the two charts. Key features are inadequately developed, and some data comparisons, such as the claim regarding personal development and social contacts, are imprecise or miscalculated relative to the visual data provided.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response shows some basic organisation with paragraphing, but there is no clear overall progression linking the ideas logically together. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and repetitively, such as the repeated formulaic openings ('In first pie chart', 'In second pie chart') and transitional words like 'Moreover' and 'Furthermore'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the lack of a cohesive overview means the information does not flow smoothly from one point to the next, placing the text firmly within the lower-mid band for this criterion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on terms lifted directly from the prompt. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as spelling mistakes ('langauge', 'dramitacally', 'intreast') and awkward word choices or collocations like 'business work' instead of 'business or work'. The range of vocabulary is limited to simple descriptions of numbers and percentages, which occasionally causes mild difficulty for the reader when attempting to follow precise meanings, reflecting typical lexical limitations at this level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, relying mostly on simple sentences or poorly constructed clauses. There is a frequent lack of main verbs, as seen in phrases like 'while 3% of students learning langauges for foreign partner' or 'buying property overseas dramitacally increased'. Frequent errors in punctuation, missing articles, and preposition use persist throughout the text. Complex sentence attempts are often faulty and lack control, meaning error-free sentences are rare and overall grammatical accuracy remains low.
