Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify two important features accurately: travel (33%) and business/work (26%) are the leading reasons in the first chart, while buying property overseas has the largest reported recent increase (34%) and travel the smallest (3%). However, the report is incomplete: it stops after “In the first chart,” and gives almost no account of the remaining categories or the second chart’s other figures. The overview is therefore only partial, and the comparison between the charts is not developed. The response also falls 59 words short of the required minimum, leaving too little information to describe the charts adequately. To improve, complete the report with a concise overview and selected comparisons covering both charts.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response begins with an introduction and then attempts an overview, so there is a basic sense of report structure. The use of “Overall” and “In contrast” also signals relationships between ideas. However, the progression breaks down because the final paragraph begins “In the first chart,” but contains no further information. As a result, the charts are not presented in a complete or logically developed sequence, and the reader is left without a clear account of the data. The overview also combines figures from both charts without fully explaining their relationship. Organise the report into an introduction, a clear overview, and one or two body paragraphs that group and compare the main figures; ensure each paragraph is complete.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use several relevant terms for describing charts, including “percentage,” “proportion,” “accounted for,” and “reported,” and the topic is generally clear. There is some useful variation in referring to the data, although “reasons for increase in learning” is an imprecise phrase for teachers’ reports of recent increases. Some expressions are awkward or incomplete, such as “buying property” where the chart specifies “buying property overseas,” and “the other common reason.” More precise chart language and accurate category labels would strengthen the report. For example, use “the proportion of teachers reporting a recent increase” and “the second most common reason” where appropriate. The limited amount of writing also restricts the range of vocabulary demonstrated.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both a longer introductory sentence and a comparative overview, and the main figures remain understandable. However, several grammatical patterns are inaccurate or incomplete. In “there was reported that,” the reporting clause is not formed correctly; write “teachers reported that” or “it was reported that.” The phrase “travel and business/work most common reasons” is missing a verb, and “as per 34% teachers” needs a grammatical construction such as “according to 34% of teachers.” The final fragment, “In the first chart,” is also incomplete. These errors affect the clarity and completeness of the report. Practise complete clauses, articles and prepositions, and check that every sentence has a clear subject and verb.
