Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the charts’ general subject and give an overview, correctly noting that travel is the leading reason in the first chart and buying property overseas is the largest reported increase in the second. Several key figures are also accurate, including 33%, 26%, 19%, 34%, and 3%. However, the report is only partially developed: it omits some categories and does not explain the second chart’s “no change” figure or compare the charts in much detail. The phrase “almost more than quarter” is also unclear. The response is 146 words, below the required 150; the 16 words copied from the prompt do not count. Add a little more relevant comparison and ensure the report meets the minimum length.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs describing each chart. This helps the reader follow the broad organisation. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited, and the links between ideas are sometimes unclear. For example, “business and buying property overseas where second and third slices” does not clearly show how the figures relate, while “There is an evident propen that” does not provide a usable transition. The overview also repeats information rather than establishing a fuller comparison. Use clear sequencing such as “followed by” and “by contrast,” and group figures in a consistent order so the relationships between categories are easier to understand.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “share,” “least,” and “account,” and the reader can generally identify the categories being discussed. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “marked high proportion,” “account good ratio,” and “15% commision.” “Evident propen” is not an appropriate expression and makes the sentence difficult to interpret. Aim for precise, conventional language for describing data, such as “accounted for,” “represented,” “the largest share,” and “the smallest proportion.” Check spelling and use the exact category labels from the chart, particularly for “social contacts” and “buying property overseas.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple and more extended sentences, but grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. The opening has subject–verb disagreement in “The two pie charts illustrates,” and the phrase “the second displays number of teachers felt” is missing grammatical elements. There are also errors in “business and buying property overseas where second and third slices,” where the sentence structure does not clearly express the comparison. Articles, sentence boundaries, and punctuation are inconsistent, including missing spaces after full stops and commas. Practise building accurate comparison sentences with a clear subject and verb—for example, “Travel accounted for 33%, followed by business/work at 26%”—before attempting longer structures.
