Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response identifies the charts’ subject and reports three accurate figures from the first chart (33% for travel, 26% for business/work and 19% for buying property overseas), as well as the largest figure in the second chart (34% for buying property overseas). However, it gives no meaningful overview of the main patterns and leaves most categories and comparisons unreported. The second chart is especially under-described: the statement that 34% “want to buying” property does not explain that this is the share of teachers reporting a recent increase. The response also falls short of the required 150 words: 128 words were counted, and 58 words copied from the prompt were excluded. Include a concise overview and select key figures from both charts to complete the report.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic sequence: the response introduces the charts, discusses the first, and then moves to the second. Paragraph breaks and signposts such as “First of all” and “Second of all” help show this order. However, the opening repeats information from the task, and phrases such as “Here we will write a report” describe the writing process rather than organise the data. The report ends abruptly after one detail from the second chart, so the progression is incomplete. Some links between ideas are also mechanical, and “On the other hand” does not express a clear contrast here. Use a brief overview followed by logically grouped comparisons, with linking phrases that show the actual relationship between figures.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses relevant topic vocabulary, including “foreign languages,” “travel,” “business or work,” and “buying property overseas,” so the reader can identify the main categories being discussed. However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or unsuitable for a formal data report: “In this picture,” “people learn,” and “the heighest reason” do not describe the teachers’ survey responses accurately. Spelling errors such as “buisness,” “oveseas,” and “bhind” also reduce control. Aim for precise reporting language, for example, “teachers reported,” “accounted for,” and “the largest proportion,” and check spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response communicates its basic meaning through mostly simple sentences, and some sentence boundaries are clear. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, particularly in verb forms and sentence construction. For example, “19% people learning these languages” lacks an appropriate verb, while “34% people want to buying” combines an incorrect verb pattern with an unclear description of the chart. Articles and plural forms are also missing in phrases such as “by teacher” and “26% people.” The sentence beginning “First of all, in the first chart in which mentioned” is incomplete. Practise complete subject–verb sentences and accurate patterns such as “34% of teachers reported an increase in…”.
