Student answer (Band 5.0)
The two pie charts illustrates responses by teachers of foreign languages in Britain to a survey concerning why their students are learning a foreign language. The first chart present the main reason for learning a foreign language. The second chart represent how many teachers felt that there has been a recent change in the reason.
Overall, it is evident that, travel accounted for largest proportion and foreign partner represented smallest one in the % of teacher reporting the following as most common reason for learning. However, in the % of teacher reporting recent increase in people learning for the reasons buying property overseas are higher and travel showed lower interest.
To begin with, a significant changes can be observed in travel category as it hold maximum position in chart one by 33% but it drastically dropped with 30% in the chart two. Furthermore, 34% and 19% of teachers reporting recent rise in people learning foreign language for buying property overseas and business or workwhile in another pie chart it slightly showed less intersest.
Moreover, the rankings of the major categories remained relatively unchanged with not more than 1-2% such as personal development, social contacts, general interest an foreign partner in perccent of teacher reporting as most reason for learning and % of tutor reporting increase in people for reasons.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main contrast accurately: travel is the leading reason in the first chart, while buying property overseas is the most frequently reported reason for a recent increase. You also include several relevant figures, such as 33%, 34% and 19%. However, the report only partially covers the data. The claim that travel “dropped with 30%” is unclear and does not accurately state the second-chart figure of 3%; moreover, that chart reports perceived increases, not the overall popularity of reasons. The comparison that the smaller categories changed by “not more than 1–2%” is also inaccurate: for example, social contacts are 7% and 15%. A clearer overview and more precise comparisons across both charts would make the key information better supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable report structure, with an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs. Sequencing phrases such as “Overall,” “To begin with” and “Moreover” help signal movement between points. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is not consistently clear. The final paragraph groups four categories together without giving their figures, and the phrase “in another pie chart” leaves the comparison difficult to follow. Some linking is also mechanical, while the long sentence beginning “Furthermore” combines several figures and comparisons without a clear relationship between them. Organise the details by chart or by the most important contrasts, and use explicit references to distinguish the first chart from the increase chart.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart-reporting vocabulary, including “accounted for,” “proportion,” “category” and “recent rise.” This gives the response a basic range suited to describing data. However, word choice and collocation are often imprecise, sometimes obscuring the intended comparison: “travel showed lower interest” and “it slightly showed less intersest” do not clearly describe what the second chart measures. There are also noticeable spelling and word-form problems, including “perccent” and “intersest,” and “workwhile” appears incorrectly joined. Aim for precise phrases such as “teachers reporting an increase” and “the share reporting travel as the main reason.” Check spelling and avoid repeating vague expressions such as “showed less interest.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more extended sentences, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors are frequent, and complex sentences are often not controlled successfully. For example, “The two pie charts illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, while “The first chart present” and “The second chart represent” also use incorrect verb forms. Articles and plurals are inconsistent in “the largest proportion” and “a significant changes.” The sentence beginning “Furthermore, 34% and 19% of teachers reporting…” lacks a finite verb and becomes difficult to parse, while the final sentence has unclear grammatical relationships between its categories and comparisons. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and build longer comparisons from complete, clearly punctuated clauses.
