Student answer (Band 6.0)
The charts illustrate the survey results in Britain done by the foreign languages instructors, the main reasons for learning a different language and the recent changes in the reason.
Commencing with the most common reasons for leaning a foreign language, travelling covers the most of the proportion followed by business and work , with 33% and 26%, respectively. Then, 19% reasons are buying properties overseas and 5% general interest. Social contacts and personal development shares the same percentage of 7%. Foreign partner is the least common reason for learning a new language with only 3%.
Turning to the recent change in the reasons of learning, buying property overseas become the one of the main reason recently surpassing the travelling with 34% , again followed by business and work but with smaller proportion of 19%.Foreign partner and general interest, increased by 1% and social contacts rose to 15% from 7%. Where as foreign partner slightly declined with 1% and travel dropped from 33% to 3% only.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main reasons in the first chart and include several relevant figures, such as travel at 33%, work at 26%, and buying property overseas at 19%. However, the report only partly covers the second chart and does not give a clear, accurate overview of its categories. In particular, you describe foreign partners as both increasing and declining, and say general interest increased by 1%, although the chart reports 4% and 6% respectively as teachers reporting a recent increase. The 15% for no change is omitted, and the 34% for property purchases is not clearly distinguished from the first chart’s reasons. Select the key contrasts and explain what each chart measures before adding details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall sequence: it first describes the most common reasons and then turns to recent changes. The paragraph break and signposts such as “Commencing with” and “Turning to” help the reader follow this structure. This coherent arrangement is a strength, and most figures are grouped with the relevant chart. However, the second paragraph becomes difficult to follow because several comparisons are compressed into one sentence, and “Foreign partner” is reported as both rising and declining. The transition “Where as” also introduces a contrast without making the relationship clear. Separate the increase figures from the no-change category and the comparison with the first chart, using explicit references to each chart.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “least common,” “surpassing,” and “declined,” which helps communicate comparisons and change. Some choices are imprecise or awkward, however, and occasionally make the data harder to interpret. For example, “travelling covers the most of the proportion” is not a natural way to describe the largest share, while “the recent change in the reasons of learning” is unclear. “Foreign languages instructors” and “different language” are also less precise than the task’s wording. Aim for accurate chart-report collocations and avoid using “increased” or “declined” unless the category and comparison are unambiguous.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including a participial opening (“Commencing with…”) and a comparison using “followed by,” so the report is not limited to short simple sentences. Some grammatical errors remain and occasionally affect clarity. Examples include “Social contacts and personal development shares,” where the plural subject requires “share,” and “buying property overseas become,” which needs a past-tense form such as “became.” The phrase “the one of the main reason” also has errors in article use and number. Punctuation is inconsistent, with spaces before commas and no space after the full stop in “19%.Foreign partner.” Check subject–verb agreement, tense consistency, articles, and sentence boundaries during revision.
