Student answer (Band 5.5)

The pie charts compare the common reasons of students acquring a foreign language and the recent fluctuation in those from teachers perspective in the UK.

Overall, most of the students learn the non-native language for seven purposes. Traveling has the highest proportion in term of reasons which decreases sharply and comes at 3% at recent days.

It is clear form the chart that 33% of the students learn the foreign language with a view to travelling where as only 3% of them report foreign partner as reason. Buting properties in another country and general interest have mentioned from 19% and 5% of participants respectively. Moreover, only 7% of the responders mention personal development as well as social contacts for their reason to learn a foreign lanuges.

However, the current data shows a high changes in choosing to acquire the foreign language. Where the highest percentage is for buying property which is 34%. In contrast, other five factors except general interest decrease in proportion where travel has witnessed a plunge at 3%; moreover, Business work is dropped from 26% to 19% and personal development along with social contacts decline by 3%. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main reason in the first chart—travel at 33%—and note the leading reported increase, buying property overseas at 34%. You also include several relevant figures and compare business/work across the charts. However, the overview is not fully accurate: saying travel “decreases sharply” treats the two charts as a direct change over time, although they report different survey measures. The second chart records teachers’ views of recent increases, not current student choices; it also includes “no change” at 15%, which you mention only at the end. The claim that “other five factors” decrease is inaccurate: general interest rises from 5% to 6%, while foreign partner rises from 3% to 4%. More precise coverage and a clearer overview would strengthen the report.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable report structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing each chart. This gives the reader a basic route through the information, and contrasts such as “In contrast” help signal comparisons. However, progression is weakened by linking the charts as if one shows a change in the other, especially in the overview’s claim that travel “decreases sharply.” Some transitions are awkward or incomplete, including “Where the highest percentage is for buying property,” and the final paragraph combines several comparisons without a clear grouping. Organise the details by chart or by meaningful comparisons, and use linking phrases only where the relationship is accurate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “participants,” “plunge,” and “acquire,” and some choices help describe the figures. However, inaccurate spelling and word choice are noticeable and sometimes make the report less clear: “acquring,” “Buting,” and “lanuges” appear, while “recent fluctuation” and “high changes” are not natural descriptions of the survey results. “Traveling” is understandable, but “travel” is the chart category and is more suitable in this context. Aim for accurate, conventional language for describing charts, and check spelling carefully. Reusing precise category labels is preferable to using ambitious but unclear paraphrases.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple statements and attempts at more complex structures, such as “whereas only 3% of them report…” and “In contrast, other five factors…”. However, errors occur across sentence patterns and sometimes make relationships difficult to follow. For example, “the common reasons of students … and the recent fluctuation … from teachers perspective” lacks clear grammatical structure, and “Where the highest percentage is…” is a fragment rather than a complete sentence. There are also problems with articles, agreement, and sentence construction in “a high changes” and “have mentioned from 19%.” Practise complete, direct sentences and check each clause for a clear subject and verb.
