Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify the leading initial reason as travel (33%) and the smallest as having a foreign partner (3%), and you attempt to compare the two charts. However, several key figures are misreported: personal development is not 45% in the second chart (it is 4%), and general interest is 5% initially and 6% in the second chart, not 6% in both. The second chart reports perceived recent increases, not simply a second set of current reasons; it also includes 15% reporting no change, which you omit. There is no clear, accurate overview of the main contrast. The response is also 35 words below the required minimum. Include a concise overview and accurately select the most important comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the report by introducing the charts and then comparing categories, with linking expressions such as “while,” “but now,” and “remaining.” However, the progression is difficult to follow because the two charts are not clearly distinguished: “travellers are around 33%” followed by “now travellers are around 3%” makes the comparison confusing, and the second figure actually refers to travel, not travellers. Ideas are crowded into long, loosely connected sentences, and there is no clear overview paragraph. Use separate paragraphs for the initial reasons and reported increases, and connect each comparison explicitly to its chart so readers can follow the data.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “foreign partner,” “business/work,” “buying property overseas,” and “increased,” so the reader can recognise the categories being discussed. However, the range is limited and several choices or forms are inaccurate, such as “travelllers,” “social contracts” for social contacts, and “major area” or “major change,” which are imprecise for describing chart proportions. Repetition of “are” and “contributing” also makes the report less natural. Aim for accurate chart language such as “accounted for,” “was the largest share,” and “rose to,” while checking category labels carefully. More precise vocabulary would make the comparisons clearer without requiring elaborate wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response communicates some basic comparisons through simple clauses, for example, “general interest are 5% now increased 6%,” and attempts contrast with “while” and “but.” However, sentence structures are mostly simple or incomplete, and errors in agreement, articles, and verb forms recur: “the pie chart illustrate,” “general interest are,” and “they increased” do not form accurate report sentences. Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also weak, particularly in the long comparison beginning “in pie chart travellers are around 33%.” These problems sometimes make relationships between figures unclear. Practise complete sentences with a consistent past or present reporting structure, such as “Travel was the most common reason, at 33%, whereas…” and check subject–verb agreement.
