Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response identifies several figures from the first chart, including travel (33%), work (26%) and buying property overseas (19%), but it does not adequately report the task’s two-chart information. The second chart is mentioned only as “the second main reasons”; none of its figures or comparisons are described, and the claim that it is “the most difficult” is unclear and unsupported. There is also no useful overview of the main patterns across both charts. The response is 146 words, below the required 150, and the 10 words copied from the prompt are excluded from that count. To improve, summarise the key contrasts—for example, travel is the leading main reason, while buying property overseas is the most frequently reported recent increase—and include the second chart’s data accurately. The task is addressed only partially, with limited development of relevant information.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is a basic attempt to move from the first chart to the second, and the figures for the first chart are presented in a broadly recognisable sequence. However, the response is essentially one paragraph, so the overview and detailed reporting are not separated, and the progression is difficult to follow. Repeated links such as “the next activity” make the list mechanical rather than showing meaningful comparisons. The transition “This time” does not clarify how the second chart relates to the first, and the final sentence does not develop a clear point. Use separate paragraphs for an overview and the key details, then group related figures and use precise comparisons such as “whereas” or “by contrast.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “categories,” “foreign partner” and “buying property overseas,” so the reader can identify the subject and several chart labels. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, particularly “the next activity” and “clear comparison among the chart.” “Bar chart” is also an inaccurate description of the visual, which consists of pie charts. Spelling errors such as “threre” and awkward expressions such as “This time is the most difficult” reduce clarity. Aim for accurate chart-reporting language and varied terms for ranking and change, such as “accounted for,” “the largest share,” and “reported an increase.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts some longer sentence patterns, including “Overall it is clear that…” and “According to the chart…,” but most sentences rely on simple, repetitive structures, and errors are frequent enough to make parts awkward or unclear. For example, “the first main activity is foreign partner that percentage is 3” joins clauses without appropriate punctuation or a clear grammatical link. “The next activity is personal development is 7” also contains a faulty sentence structure, while “Its show” has an incorrect subject–verb form. There are also inconsistent sentence boundaries and missing punctuation. Practise forming complete comparisons with accurate clauses—for example, “Travel was the most common reason, at 33%, while…”—and check agreement, articles and punctuation.
