Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main patterns: travel is the leading reported reason at 33%, while buying property overseas is the largest reason for a recent increase at 34%. You also note business/work as a substantial category in both charts. However, some details are inaccurate or incomplete: “followed by travel for 26%” repeats travel, when 26% refers to business/work. The overview also says business/work remains second in both charts, but social contacts and no change each account for 15% in the second chart, so this ranking needs qualification. Several categories, including social contacts and general interest, are not discussed. A more precise overview and accurate comparisons would make the report more complete and clear.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing the charts. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression is weakened by repeated contrast markers such as “Whereas” and “However,” sometimes used without a complete contrasting clause. The overview also repeats the claim about business/work, and the first detail paragraph contains the confusing sequence “followed by travel for 26%.” Grouping the main reason figures together and then comparing them with the increase figures would create a clearer progression. Use linking words selectively and make sure each sentence connects logically to the one before it.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “accounting for,” “recent increase,” and “least common reason.” These choices help communicate the chart topic, and the meaning is generally understandable. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, however: “the significant proportion … accounts for travel” is awkward, and “business work remain the second reason” is not a natural way to describe the data. There are also spelling errors in “propert” and “teacher's,” and “people learning language” is repeated without an article or a more precise alternative. Aim for accurate chart language such as “the largest share,” “was reported as,” and “the second most common reason.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response attempts both simple and more complex sentence forms, including contrast clauses and participial phrasing, and the main message can usually be followed. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “from chart” needs an article, “business work remain” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, and “the large proportion of people learning language is due travel” has several missing grammatical elements. The sentence beginning “Whereas foreign partner as the least common reason” is a fragment rather than a complete clause. Build complete sentences around comparisons, check singular and plural agreement, and use articles and prepositions consistently.
