Student answer (Band 5.0)
The pie chart illustrates the responses by teachers of foreign language in Britain to a survey concerning why their pupils are learning a foreign language.
Overall, the first pie chart is showing the proportion of teachers reporting the various reasons for learning with higher personal development and also higher travel proportion as compared to the recent increase in people learning with lowest personal development and travel rate.
In the most common reasons, the major reason of learning is higher travel rate that is of 33 percentage with lowest rate of personal development , social contracts and of 5 percentage of general interest. The bussiness and work reasons are on higher rate. Moreover, the overseas buying the property varies to 19 percent.
Futhermore, the recent increase produces the dramatically change in learning process with different reasons. The travel rate fluctuated and comes to 3 percentage from 33. Additionally, there is also decline in Business and work, but the rest of reasons gradually increases as compared to before.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the topic and include an overview, noting that travel is the leading reason in the first chart. However, the overview misreads the second chart: travel is 3%, but personal development is 4%, not the lowest, and the chart reports perceived increases rather than a direct change in the overall learning process. Several figures are missing or inaccurate: business/work is 26% in the first chart, while buying property overseas is the largest reported increase at 34%; neither is clearly compared. The claim that “the rest of reasons gradually increases” is unsupported, since some categories fall or remain comparatively low. The response therefore covers the task only partially, with limited and sometimes unclear selection of key features.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs addressing the charts. This gives the reader some basic organisation, and transitions such as “Overall,” “Moreover,” and “Furthermore” signal movement between points. However, the progression within paragraphs is weak: the first chart’s figures are grouped unclearly, and the final paragraph makes broad claims without systematically comparing categories. Some linking is inaccurate or mechanical, particularly “Additionally” before an unsupported statement about decline. References such as “the rest of reasons” are vague, so it is difficult to know which categories are meant. Clearer grouping of the largest and smallest figures, followed by precise comparisons, would improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “survey,” “decline,” and “increase,” and the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning unclear. For example, “social contracts” appears to mean “social contacts,” “the overseas buying the property” is awkward, and “produces the dramatically change” is not a natural way to describe the chart. “Fluctuated” suggests movement over time, whereas the charts compare reported reasons and perceived increases. Spelling errors such as “bussiness” and “Futhermore” are also noticeable. Use precise chart language such as “accounted for,” “was the most frequently reported,” and “teachers reported an increase.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple statements and longer sentences, and the main topic can usually be followed. However, the range is limited, and errors recur in sentence construction, articles, agreement, and punctuation. For example, “the first pie chart is showing” is an awkward tense choice for describing static data, while “the major reason of learning is higher travel rate” has an unclear grammatical structure. In “with lowest personal development,” an article is missing, and “the rest of reasons gradually increases” has a plural subject with a singular verb. Several sentences also run together without appropriate spacing or punctuation, as in the sentence ending “general interest.The.” Aim for controlled present-simple comparisons and check articles, subject–verb agreement, and sentence boundaries.
