Student answer (Band 5.5)
The pie charts illustrate the percentage of common reasons for learning foreign languages and the recent increase in people learing these languages in Britain.
Overall it is clearly seen that travel is the main reason for learning foreign laguage while the increase of learning for that reason showed the lowest percentage.
Travelling is considered as the main reason for learning foreing languages and it makes up about one third portion of the other reasons. However, an opposite scenary is seen as only 3% increased in the number of people learing froeign language for travelling. The second and third reason are business and buying property overseas and the figure considered as 26% and 19%, while increment is about 19% ans 34%. The incease percentage of learing foreign laguage is seen for buying property overseas.
In terms of general interest both reason and increase remained same which is about 5%. In terms of social contancts the increase number of people learning is more than double of its reason and it is 15%. Moreover, in case of personal development and foreign partern the reason of learing foreign language is 7% and 3% while increase is about 4% for both of them.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main pattern accurately: travel is the leading reported reason at 33%, while only 3% of teachers report a recent increase for travel. You also compare business/work and buying property overseas, and include the smaller categories, so the report addresses both charts. The overview is relevant, but it could summarise the second chart more fully: buying property overseas has the largest increase (34%), while travel has the smallest (3%). The statement that general interest and its increase are both “about 5%” is inaccurate; the figures are 5% and 6%. Also, the second chart reports teachers’ views of recent change, so describe these as reported increases rather than a direct count of people learning. More precise coverage and a clearer overview would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs comparing the larger and smaller categories. This gives the reader a generally coherent route through the information. Linking expressions such as “However,” “In terms of,” and “Moreover” help signal comparisons, although some transitions feel mechanical and the grouping could be more deliberate. For example, the paragraph moves from travel to business and property, then repeats the property increase; this could be streamlined by grouping the largest reasons and their corresponding changes together. The final paragraph covers several smaller categories, but the comparison between general interest and its increase is unclear because the values are not the same. Clearer grouping and more precise referencing would improve progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “main reason,” “increase,” and “buying property overseas,” and you attempt a range of expressions such as “makes up” and “remained same.” However, inaccurate word choice and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the report less clear. Examples include “one third portion,” “opposite scenary,” “increment,” and repeated misspellings such as “learing” and “contancts.” Some phrases are also unnatural for describing survey data, particularly “the increase number of people learning”; the chart gives percentages of teachers reporting an increase. Aim for accurate, conventional collocations and check spelling carefully. A more precise vocabulary range would make the comparisons easier to follow.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including contrast clauses with “while” and “However,” and most of the intended comparisons can be understood. Some grammatical errors remain, especially in articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “learning foreign laguage” needs an article or plural form, and “both reason and increase remained same” lacks appropriate articles and a clear grammatical relationship. In “the figure considered as 26% and 19%,” the passive construction is incomplete; “the figures were 26% and 19%” would be clearer. There is also a run-on feel in the sentence beginning “The second and third reason.” More accurate sentence patterns and careful proofreading would improve control.
