Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify the two charts’ subject and report many of the figures accurately, including travel at 33%, business/work at 26%, and buying property overseas at 34% in the recent-increase chart. However, the response mainly lists data rather than selecting and comparing the key features. It gives no clear overview of the main contrast—for example, travel is the leading current reason, while buying property overseas is the most frequently reported reason for recent growth. The second chart’s 4% for foreign partners is also omitted. The response is 122 words, below the required 150, so the report is underdeveloped and does not fully meet the task.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the report: the opening identifies the charts, and “firstly” and “secondly” separate the two sets of figures. This gives the reader some sense of sequence. However, the response has no effective overview paragraph, and the data within each chart are presented as long, loosely connected lists. Repeated use of “or” and “and” does not clearly show which figures belong together or how they compare. The final sentence repeats the chart description instead of adding a useful conclusion. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and detailed comparisons, and connect figures with clearer relationships such as “whereas,” “compared with,” and “by contrast.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses enough topic vocabulary to identify the subject and several categories, including “foreign language,” “business,” “buying property overseas,” and “social contacts.” These choices make the general topic understandable. However, the range is limited and some wording is repetitive or imprecise: “the reason” and “the charts” recur, while “the travel accounted 33%” is not a natural collocation. There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “foregin,” “thier,” and “leanring,” which reduce accuracy and polish. Use precise reporting language such as “accounted for,” “was the most commonly cited reason,” and “teachers reporting an increase,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The response attempts simple reporting sentences, but grammatical control is weak and sentence structures are repetitive. Errors in agreement and sentence formation appear in “the first charts show” and “the second chart show,” while “the pie charts represents of teachers reporting” is incomplete and difficult to interpret. Missing articles and incorrect patterns also occur in “the travel accounted 33%”; the correct structure is “travel accounted for 33%.” Punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent, with sentence boundaries unclear in several places. These problems sometimes make relationships between the figures difficult to follow. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and build complete sentences using a clear subject, verb, and comparison.
