Student answer (Band 6.0)

The first pie chart illustrates the rate of educators who answers to a survey which was about their pupils` most common motivation for learning a new language. The second pie chart shows the percentage of the same teachers´ reports of recent trends of why their students decided to learn a foreign language.

Overall, it is evident that most of the students choose to learn a new language to travel and many people recently started to learn foreing languages to buy property abroad or for their professional careers.

The most common motivation for people to learn another tongue is to travel, as it is visible in the first chart with 33% travel is the main reason among others. Following travel, second most popular cause is business purposes at 26%. Another significant reason to learn a new language is to buy accomidation in another country which makes up 19% of the all purposes and this makes it the third in that category. Other reasons such as general interest, social contacts, personal development and having a foreign partner have insignificant rates in comparison to these three reasons.

But teachers also reported recently most of the demand for learning a foreign language is caused by motivation to buy properties with that making up 34% of the whole reasons to demand. While business still makes up a large portion of the demand, recently less people learns a new language to travel with it being tge just 3% of demands.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main pattern in both charts: travel leads as the most common reason at 33%, while buying property overseas is the largest reported recent increase at 34%. You also include several accurate figures, such as 26% for work and 19% for property in the first chart. However, the second chart is not consistently interpreted: 19% for work and 15% for social contacts are also reported increases, while 15% indicates no change; the claim that “most” demand is due to property overstates a figure that represents about a third. The final comparison with travel is useful, but the report would be more complete with clearer coverage of the other recent-change categories and a more precise overview.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs describing the two charts. This makes the main comparison easy to follow, and transitions such as “Following travel” and “But” help connect points. The progression is generally logical, but some links are awkward or unclear. For example, “with 33% travel is the main reason” joins two ideas without clear punctuation, and “with that making up 34% of the whole reasons to demand” makes the relationship between the figure and the category difficult to follow. The overview also combines property and professional careers without clearly distinguishing the charts. More precise linking and clearer references would make the organisation smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic vocabulary, including “motivation,” “professional careers,” “social contacts,” and “foreign partner,” and you vary some references to language learning with “another tongue.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for a chart report: “rate of educators who answers,” “demand,” and “buy accommodation” do not express the intended data clearly. There are also spelling errors, including “foreing,” “accomidation,” and “tge,” which reduce accuracy. Some repetition of “reason” and “learn a new language” is understandable, but more precise terms such as “proportion,” “reported increase,” and “category” would improve control and make comparisons clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “as” and “while,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with agreement and sentence construction. For example, “educators who answers” should use a plural verb, and “less people learns” has both agreement and countability problems. The sentence beginning “with 33% travel is the main reason” is also structurally incomplete, while “19% of the all purposes” contains an unnecessary article. Punctuation around longer sentences is sometimes insufficient. Aim to make each comparison a complete, controlled sentence and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and plural forms.
