Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main pattern in each chart: travel is the largest first-chart category, while buying property overseas is the largest reported recent increase. You also attempt comparisons, such as business/work falling from about a quarter to around a fifth. However, the second chart is misinterpreted in important places: the 3% figure is for travel reporting an increase, not a rise from 3% to 33%, and the 15% “no change” category does not mean reasons stayed unchanged from the first chart. The overview also claims a significant change between the reports, although the charts show different measures. Include accurate key figures and explain that the charts compare common reasons with teachers’ reports of recent increases.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and a final paragraph containing comparisons. This gives the reader some organisation, and linking words such as “Overall,” “whereas” and “also” help signal relationships. However, progression is not consistently clear because the two charts’ different purposes are not kept distinct. For example, “There was only a huge increase in travel which is 3% to 33%” combines figures from separate measures as if they showed a change over time. Some references, including “the both reports” and “the reasons never changed,” are unclear. Group the first chart’s main reasons together, then describe the second chart’s reported increases and no-change response, using clear references to each chart.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “purpose,” “significant change” and “increase,” and you attempt to describe comparisons rather than simply list categories. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning less precise, such as “purpose of students to learn,” “get the one third proportion” and “buying property of overseas.” Spelling errors are also noticeable, including “forigen,” “tarvel” and “decrese,” which reduce the accuracy of the report. Aim for standard chart language and consistent category labels, for example “the proportion of teachers identifying travel as the main reason” and “teachers reporting an increase in learning for property-related reasons.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “whereas” and a clause beginning “which is highest.” However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships difficult to follow. The opening sentence has problems with agreement and sentence construction: “The two pie chart illustrate the proportion of survey of teachers.” Other examples include “There was a significant change … between the both reports” and “The business or work purpose … decrese from onr quarter,” where articles, prepositions, verb forms and sentence structure need attention. Some sentences also lack clear grammatical links between the figures being compared. Practise accurate plural forms, subject–verb agreement and past-tense reporting, then check each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
