Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify several key figures accurately, including travel at 33%, work at 26%, and overseas property at 19% in the first chart, and you include the 34% figure for property in the second. However, the second chart reports teachers’ views of recent increases, not the proportions of people learning for each reason; describing these as learner percentages leads to a central misinterpretation. You also say travel and work decreased from one chart to the other, although the charts show different measures, and the final claim that several reasons “was increase” is vague. There is no clear overview of the main contrast: property-related learning was most often reported as increasing, while travel was least often reported as increasing. Select and compare the data more accurately to address the task fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure: it introduces the charts, describes the first and second charts, and then attempts comparisons. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “In first chart” and “The second chart” signal the topic of each section. However, the progression is repetitive and not always logical: the second chart is described, then the final paragraph compares its figures directly with the first chart as if they measured the same thing. Several ideas are joined in long lists, while the final sentence groups three categories without giving their figures. Use a clear overview paragraph followed by separate, focused comparisons, and use linking language to show that the charts represent different survey questions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “travel,” “business or work,” “buying property overseas,” and “social contacts,” so the reader can generally identify the categories being discussed. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, especially repeated use of “people was learning” and “for learning.” Some word forms and spelling also reduce accuracy, such as “forign” and “decrease form.” More precise reporting language would help distinguish the charts’ measures: for example, teachers “reported” a reason as most common or “reported an increase” in learning for that reason. Aim to vary verbs and use accurate collocations rather than repeating the same basic construction.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response relies mainly on simple sentence patterns, with limited control of more varied structures. Errors occur frequently in agreement and verb forms: “33 percent people was learning” should use a plural subject and a suitable reporting construction, while “that decrease” and “that was increase” do not form accurate clauses. Articles and sentence openings are also inconsistent, as in “In first chart.” These errors sometimes make the relationships between the figures and the survey questions difficult to follow. Practise accurate comparative sentences and reporting clauses, such as “Teachers most often identified travel as the main reason, whereas only 3% reported a recent increase for this reason.”
