Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the main pattern in both charts: travel is the leading reason in the first, while buying property overseas is the most frequently reported recent increase. Several figures are accurate, including 33% for travel, 3% for a foreign partner, 19% for overseas property, and 34% for its recent increase. However, the report is incomplete and some comparisons are unclear or inaccurate: travel in the second chart is 3%, not 4%, and you omit the 19% for business/work and 15% for social contacts there. The first chart’s 5% for general interest is also missing. The response is one word below the 150-word minimum. Include a fuller overview and select the key figures more systematically.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic report structure, with an opening, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the two charts. This helps the reader distinguish the information being discussed. However, progression within the paragraphs is weak: the first-chart paragraph moves through figures without a clear comparison, and the second-chart paragraph ends with a confusing list of categories and percentages. Linking words such as “however,” “and,” and “but” are used, but the relationships they signal are not always clear. For example, “buying property overseas reported 19% little higher” does not explain what it is being compared with. Group the largest and smallest figures, and use clear references to each chart and category.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart-reporting vocabulary, including “approximately,” “percentage,” “highest,” and “lowest,” and the reader can generally identify the categories you mean. However, the range is limited and several choices or spellings make the report less precise, such as “teachers reporting a huge percentage,” “little higher,” and “was increased little.” “Significantly” is also not suitable for describing a large share unless the chart establishes statistical significance. Spelling errors such as “buisness,” “devlopment,” and “secend” are noticeable. Aim for accurate, neutral terms such as “accounted for,” “was the most commonly reported reason,” and “the smallest proportion,” and check spelling before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt longer sentences and use basic comparison structures, but control is inconsistent, and many sentences are difficult to follow. The opening, for example, lacks a complete, well-formed structure: “the chart illustrates responses … while the first chart shows…” does not clearly connect the two charts. There are also recurring problems with articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries, as in “for buying property overseas reported 19%” and “business work was increased little.” The overview’s phrasing, “teachers reporting a huge percentage in travel,” is also grammatically incomplete. Use complete subject–verb sentences, keep each comparison in a manageable sentence, and check articles and verb forms.
