Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response identifies the general subject and begins to describe the charts, but it does not provide a usable report of the data. The statement that travel is the “most highest” reason is broadly supported by the first chart (33%), yet the response gives no figures, comparisons, or account of the second chart, where buying property overseas is the leading reason for a recent increase (34%). The overview is unfinished (“and”), and the chart’s key features are therefore not summarised. The required minimum length is not met: the response contains 43 words against a 150-word minimum. To improve, complete the overview and select several accurate figures from both charts for comparison.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the report: the opening refers to both charts, followed by a sentence that appears intended as an overview. However, the response stops mid-thought at “and”, so there is no progression from introduction to overview and supporting details. No paragraphing or linking of comparisons is developed, and “First chart showing…” is a fragment rather than a complete sentence. At this level, the reader can recognise the intended topic, but the ideas are too incomplete to form a coherent report. Use a short introduction, a complete overview, and separate detail paragraphs that group the main reasons and the reported increases.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses a small set of relevant terms, including “survey,” “foreign languages,” “reason,” and “teacher response,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the vocabulary is very limited and some choices are inaccurate or awkward: “survey result” would be more naturally expressed as “survey results,” while “reason on learning” does not clearly convey “reason for learning.” There are also spelling errors in “britain,” “leraning,” and “trabel,” which reduce accuracy. The unfinished response offers little evidence of range or precise description of chart data. Build a bank of task-specific expressions such as “accounted for,” “the largest proportion,” and “teachers reported an increase,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The response attempts simple sentence forms, but control is inconsistent. “First chart showing the reason on learning” is not a complete sentence because it lacks a finite verb, and “the other chart show” has a subject–verb agreement error. The phrase “Overall The most highest reasons…” also has faulty construction and punctuation, while the final “and” leaves the sentence incomplete. These problems make the report difficult to follow, although the opening sentence does communicate the general topic. Practise complete subject–verb sentences and use straightforward structures accurately before attempting more complex comparisons; for example, “The first chart shows the main reasons students learn languages.”
