Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response attempts to discuss both attitudes and gives a preference, but the ideas are difficult to identify and are not developed with relevant explanations or examples. The opening says it will explain why one attitude is preferable, yet the conclusion says both are important and then favours having little interest, so the position is unclear. The body paragraphs do not clearly explain why some people prioritise work or why others value leisure; claims such as people “get successful” are not supported. The response is also 2 words below the 250-word minimum; the 9 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. To improve, state a consistent opinion and explain each attitude with a specific reason and example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic essay shape, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore” and “In conclusions” show an attempt to organise the response. However, the ideas within paragraphs do not progress clearly: the first body paragraph repeats that people have interests but “do not get it,” without clarifying what this means. Connectors including “Therefore,” “Because” and “However” sometimes introduce relationships that are unclear or contradictory. The conclusion also shifts the position rather than resolving the discussion. For clearer progression, give each paragraph one distinct purpose, develop its main point in a logical sequence, and use linking words only when their relationship is accurate.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “hobbies,” “leisure interests,” “pressure,” “family” and “successful,” so the reader can recognise the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning difficult to follow, such as “the most important thing in life and little interest” and “they do not get in interest.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “eassy,” “prepective,” “Anothere” and “issuse.” Build a more precise topic vocabulary and check spelling; for example, distinguish “prioritise career” from “value leisure time,” rather than repeating “interest” and “things.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts a mixture of simple sentences and longer clauses, using forms such as “although” and “because,” but control is inconsistent and many sentences are difficult to interpret. For example, “One of the main reasons is that the most important thing in life and little interest, it is prefer for human life” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “people get try to lot of thing” has problems with verb construction and number. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “One” and “Anothere” after commas and the lower-case “i.” Practise forming clear subject–verb sentences first, then add subordinate clauses; check articles, agreement, verb forms and sentence boundaries during revision.
