Student answer (Band 6.5)

People divide into two types; the first think that work is the worthiest part of their lives, and others believe their hobbies and leisure interests are more interesting.

On one hand, work is the most essential thing people do as it is the source of income that pay to get services and do activities, so as a result people need money and work to live and everything need to be payed to be gotten. Also, it enhances the way people feel about themselves as the more productive, the more confidence and proudness.

On the other hand, others can not pay attention for their jobs only, they have hobbies to do such as reading and gym and families and friends that they care about and want to enhance their relations with each. For instant, after work, one can can see friends and get a break of life stress to recharge his energy and feel better so can work harder next day.

From my respective, life has several sorts of things to enjoy with and work is one of them. It is not the first priority but it is main and essential. When everyone has his different sources of joy and fun, he feels more comfortable and has higher energy and clear mind to improve his life.

In conclusion, society consists of different types with various points of view that make priorities and interests differentiate from one to another, one thinks work is the only priority in his life and other has various priorities and a lot of types of things that he want to do. I believe the lifestyle that has a regular kinds of activities increase the positive feelings and awareness.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding work as a source of income is quite basic, and the explanation of hobbies could be more deeply explored with specific examples rather than just listing 'reading and gym'. While the task is fulfilled, the supporting evidence lacks depth and sophistication, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, you should aim to expand your points with more detailed explanations or hypothetical scenarios that illustrate the impact of these attitudes on society or the individual.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to signal shifts in the argument. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed, such as the transition between the discussion of income and the psychological benefits of work. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. However, there is a reliance on simpler, repetitive terms like 'things', 'do', and 'get'. There are also some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'proudness' (pride) and 'regular kinds of activities' (a balanced range of activities). To achieve a higher score, you should attempt to incorporate more precise, academic vocabulary and collocations that demonstrate a wider range of expression, moving away from generic verbs and nouns.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and sentence construction, such as 'everything need to be payed to be gotten' and 'others can not pay attention for their jobs only'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, and there are minor errors in subject-verb agreement. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structure and proofreading for common errors like tense consistency and preposition usage. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will help raise your score.
