IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people regard work as the most important thing in life and have little interest in anything else. Other people are more enthusiastic about their hobbies and leisure interests than their jobs.
Discuss both these attitudes and give your own opinion.
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Some people claim that work is the most important aspect of life, therefore, they believe that people should spend a little time on anything else. However, the opponents disagree with the statement and are convinced that other skills and hobbies should be explored and enhanced by individuals more than their responsibilities in their leisure time. Although, I believe that a job plays a vital role in human life, which provides the worker with income, stabilises finances, and gives us more prospects in the future, I mostly agree with the latter statement. Humans should be more passionate about digging into their interests and most importantly, themselves, since they choose their careers based on their pursuits.
On one hand, job is a fundamental human responsibility, which enables workers’ income. With enough finance, they will be able to spend it on both materialistic things and higher education. For instance, a student who graduated from high school can take a gap year to make enough money for university loans before they apply for university. Correspondingly, many people work for many years to live comfortably and furthermore, to reach financial freedom. However, people shouldn't allow jobs to define life, neglecting quality time with their loved ones, and sacrificing their own passion. In addition, since people nowadays are permitted to change careers, they shouldn't be limited to their jobs.
Thanks to human rights, now society is allowed to pursue their curiosities and sate their satiation. Recently, in today’s generation, especially gen Z people are more likely to improve their hobbies to work and make a living out of them. Likewise, individuals switch their jobs more often than they used to. Therefore, future generations are converging on the freedom to work wherever they fancy.
To sum it up, although money is necessary for making a living, I strongly believe that people shouldn't overlook their time for their loved ones.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all parts of the prompt by discussing both attitudes and providing a clear personal opinion. Your position is consistent throughout the essay. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat uneven. While the first body paragraph provides a logical argument regarding the necessity of work, the second paragraph is less focused, moving quickly from hobbies to Gen Z trends without fully exploring the implications of prioritizing leisure over work. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully extended with specific examples or deeper analysis rather than listing general observations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'On one hand,' 'Correspondingly,' and 'Therefore' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced, such as the use of 'Although' at the start of the third sentence, which creates a fragment rather than a complex sentence. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, and the progression of the argument is generally easy to follow, though the connection between the final paragraph and the preceding points could be more seamless.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas clearly. You use some good collocations like 'financial freedom' and 'pursue their curiosities.' However, there are some instances of imprecise word choice or awkward phrasing, such as 'sate their satiation' and 'converging on the freedom.' These choices slightly detract from the natural flow of the writing. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring that word combinations sound natural to a native speaker. Your spelling is accurate throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the opponents disagree with the statement' (which lacks a clear antecedent) and the sentence fragment 'Although, I believe that a job plays a vital role...'. Additionally, there are minor punctuation issues, such as unnecessary commas after 'Although' and 'Recently.' While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing your control over complex sentence structures and refining your punctuation will help improve your accuracy.
