Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both attitudes towards work and leisure and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, such as the explanation of why doctors might prioritize work or how hobbies improve productivity. However, some arguments are slightly underdeveloped, such as the claim that 'exploring strangers might be beneficial for learning new skills,' which is a bit vague and tangential. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main points. To reach a higher band, ensure that all supporting examples are directly linked to the core argument to avoid minor lapses in clarity.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints. The use of cohesive devices like 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'Furthermore' helps guide the reader through the argument. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the transition between sentences in the second paragraph. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the use of 'it' in 'when humans spend time on it,' where the antecedent is not perfectly defined. Overall, the progression is clear and the structure is sound.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'plethora' and 'financial security,' which are used correctly. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'living high standards of live' (should be 'living a high standard of life') and 'work-life balanced' (should be 'work-life balance'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the writing. Expanding the range of collocations and refining word forms would help improve the score in this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the work is most crucial thing'), subject-verb agreement ('work provide income'), and prepositions ('on hospitals'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'Both the views points would be describe in further paragraph.' Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the errors do not significantly impede communication. To improve, the student should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, specifically article usage and verb forms, to increase the number of error-free sentences.
