Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both attitudes toward work and leisure and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, particularly the benefits of leisure activities. However, some arguments could be extended further; for instance, the section on work-life balance could benefit from more specific examples to reach a higher band. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively synthesizes the arguments presented. To improve, ensure that every point is supported by a concrete example or a more detailed explanation to fully satisfy the requirements for a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Moreover' are used to guide the reader. However, there are some minor issues with punctuation and flow, such as the sentence fragment 'Hobbies like sports, reading.' which disrupts the coherence. Additionally, some transitions are slightly mechanical. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring punctuation is accurate will help the flow of ideas become more natural and sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary, such as 'mental agility' and 'cultivate social connections'. However, there are some spelling errors (e.g., 'sress') and minor collocation issues (e.g., 'rather than only on job duties'). The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but to achieve a higher score, the writer should aim for more precise word choices and avoid minor errors that occasionally distract the reader. Expanding the range of topic-specific collocations would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer demonstrates an ability to construct complex sentences, there are frequent errors in punctuation, particularly with missing spaces after commas and periods (e.g., 'careers, others', 'sports, reading. Moreover'). These errors are noticeable but do not significantly impede communication. There are also some minor grammatical slips, such as 'In long run' (missing article). To improve, the writer should focus on proofreading for punctuation and articles, and aim to increase the frequency of error-free complex sentences to demonstrate better control.
